Anthropologists, Artists, Entreprenuers

We are a Mexican-American, sister-led team of anthropologists, entrepreneurs, and artists working at the intersection of culture, ethnobotany, and trade. Our shared background in anthropology and hands-on experience in archaeology inform everything we build—grounding our work in research, material reality, and deep respect for the ways culture is formed, transmitted, and sustained.

We approach coffee not as a commodity, but as a cultural artifact—one that carries history, labor, ecology, and meaning. For us, coffee has always been a vehicle of exchange: botanical, social, and political. We view direct trade as a modern expression of an ancient human practice—trade as relationship, trade as diplomacy, trade as peace.

Alongside our cultural research, we co-founded 96 Unicorns Botanica, an ethnobotany-driven supplement company rooted in plant intelligence, traditional knowledge systems, and modern formulation. That same ethnographic lens informs our coffee sourcing and roasting philosophy: honoring origin, respecting process, and translating complexity into something tangible and accessible.

Beyond research and product development, we have both worked extensively in marketing, branding, and business development—representing, building, and scaling brands across industries. This experience allows us to bridge worlds: translating cultural insight into compelling narratives, ethical supply chains into viable businesses, and research into resonance.

As culture creators, we are interested in systems that work—models that allow farmers, artisans, and collaborators to retain agency while building something economically viable, creatively free, and structurally sound. Our practice blends strategy with artistry, data with story, and scholarship with lived experience.

This company exists to explore coffee as a cultural medium—one that connects land to cup, past to present, and people to one another. Every roast is an act of translation. Every partnership is an experiment in trust. Every exchange is an opportunity to do trade differently.
